Wilton
Children’s Theater is pleased to provide two productions during
the school year for Wilton’s fourth through eighth grade students.
Shows typically are run by professional directors, musical directors,
and choreographers, assisted by hired sound, and lighting, and set
designers. All other administrative and technical positions are filled
by volunteers. Parental involvement in some aspect of the production
is required. WCT is able to achieve high quality productions through
the combined efforts of its professional staff and dedicated volunteers.
The Fall/Spring shows involve approximately ten weeks of rehearsals
culminating in three performances. A maximum of 55 children are accepted
for each production because of facility space limitations. Registration
for both the Fall and Spring programs is held the last week of August. If more
children register than can be accommodated by the program, a lottery
is held. The lottery is a random selection of cast members designed
to provide an even distribution of children by grade and gender.
The registration fee for the Fall and Spring Productions includes a cast T-shirt. Since the per production expense for each child is considerably
higher than the registration fee, the funding difference is offset
by income from ticket sales and patron contributions. Also, a working
Board of Directors and parent volunteers minimize personnel expenses.
