Discipline Policy

Please take a few minutes and read this policy with your child. In order to participate in Wilton Children’s Theater, both you and your child will need to check accept below. Your child will also sign a paper version of this policy on the first day of rehearsal.

This Policy sets forth the consequences of violations of the Code of Conduct (which has been provided to you). The producers of a show, in consultation with the Executive Board of Wilton Children’s Theater (the “Board”), will make all final decisions as to whether or not an actor has violated the Code of Conduct, and what action is to be taken as a result of such a violation. The Board has the right to remove any child from a production who violates the Code of Conduct.

WCT applies a discipline system involving strikes against behavior found to be inappropriate by the Board and/or producers (the “Three Strike Policy”). In most instances, upon the 3rd violation, the child will be removed from the production, and be disallowed from entry into the next WCT lottery. The producers of any production may recommend to the Board that a child’s conduct is so egregious that he/she must be immediately removed from a production without any prior strikes, and should be disallowed from being entered in any future WCT lotteries. Strikes survive for one year (for example, if the strike was given in the fall show, the strike would survive through the end of that year’s summer show).

Also, due to tardiness or absences, a strike may be given, an actor’s part could be reassigned, or the actor could be dismissed from the show. Below is the three-strike procedure that will typically be followed. Policy decisions and implementation are done at the sole discretion of the Board in consultation with the producers.

STRIKE 1

  • The parent or guardian shall sign an acknowledgement of STRIKE 1 - IMMEDIATELY UPON PICK-UP.

STRIKE 2

  • The child will be removed from that rehearsal

  • The parent or guardian will have to sign STRIKE 2 on three strikes policy IMMEDIATELY UPON PICK-UP.

  • A parent or responsible adult will be required to supervise their child at rehearsals until such time as the producers deem it not necessary.

STRIKE 3

  • The child will be immediately removed from the production.

  • The child and parent or guardian will have to sign STRIKE 3 on three strikes policy IMMEDIATELY UPON PICK-UP.

  • The child will not be permitted to participate in the following year’s WCT casting lottery.
