50 Years of Wilton Kids Taking the Stage

Since 1976, Wilton Children’s Theater has given generations of Wilton kids a place to try something new, build confidence, make great friends, and experience the magic of putting on a show.

Some arrive ready for the spotlight. Others discover along the way that they love singing, dancing, acting, or simply being part of something bigger than themselves. No matter the size of the role, every child is an important part of the production.

Who We Are

Wilton Children’s Theater is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to creating meaningful theatrical experiences for Wilton’s youth.

Our productions are led by professional directors, music directors, and choreographers who create an environment that is welcoming, collaborative, and fun. Behind the scenes, our volunteer Board and WCT families bring each production to life, helping with everything from sets, costumes, and props to publicity, concessions, and show-day logistics.

WCT is entirely self-funded through registration fees, ticket and merchandise sales, concessions, and the generous support of our patrons and community partners. We are committed to making participation accessible and offer financial assistance on a case-by-case basis. Families can contact us for more information.

We also love welcoming WCT alumni back through our high school internship program, giving former cast members the opportunity to stay involved while gaining hands-on theater experience.

Our Story

WCT began in 1976 with the support of the Wilton Playshop and a simple idea: create opportunities for Wilton kids to experience live theater.

As WCT grew, we made our home at Middlebrook School, producing large-scale musicals for Wilton students in grades 4–8. Demand grew, and in 1985 WCT expanded to two productions each year. Summerstage, for students in grades 7–10, followed in 1991, with Summerstage Jr., for grades 3–6, added in 2010.

Along the way, WCT has been recognized for its contributions to the Wilton community, including an award for outstanding community service from the Wilton YMCA in 2001 and the Chamber of Commerce’s “I Love Wilton” Award in 2011.

Through five decades, WCT has continued to evolve while remaining rooted in what has always made it special: kids creating something together and a community coming together to make it possible.

The Next Act

As we celebrate our 50th season, we’re grateful for the thousands of children, families, volunteers, alumni, directors, and community supporters who have been part of the WCT story.

A lot has changed since 1976. But the best parts of WCT haven’t: friendships made during rehearsals, kids cheering each other on backstage, families pitching in, and that moment when the lights come up and a cast gets to share what they’ve created.
